When you are depressed, it is impossible not to be lost inside yourself, not because you are selfish, but because you have an illness that discounts the real world and makes you believe the worst about yourself and everyone else. These introspective stories are bound by the tone as well as the haunting inner demons within the characters. Having read Saucier's suspenseful romance, Alicia's Possession I was impressed with how these vignettes reflect the inner turmoil of Alicia (the author of these tales). The desperation, confusion, and depression from which the characters cannot escape directly mirrors how Alicia is feeling at the beginning of Alicia's Possession, before a certain someone finds her and brings her out of the dark. I highly recommend Alicia Embracing the Dark to those willing to look within, and next, I'd recommend picking up Alicia's Possession, which takes you on a mysterious, romantic thrill-ride all its own.
